Monolake is the open project founded in 1995 by Robert Henke and Gerhard Behles, concerning the exploration of space, time, sound and the structures, (im) balances and repetitions created within stirring combinations of these elements.
Driven by shared skills, joy and creativity, the duo built their own world of beats and sound microstructures; creating sounds reminiscent of dub, ambient and minimal techno.
The exploration into the endless possibilities of the computer as a sound creation device, also gave life to the music software Ableton Live, which nowadays offers millions of creators around the world the tools necessary to create sound.
Monolake Live is a deliberately non-visual performance. It is Robert Henke’s contemporary version of electronic dance music, a blend of a quite traditional techno live set with a strong focus on percussive elements and complex evolving atmospheric walls of sound. Each Monolake Live performance is unique, with a lot of room for improvisation with sounds and structure. The music is derived from the last vinyl releases and is presented at L.E.V. as a four channel surround sound experience.
